The Weber Family

There is a considerable amount of information concerning the Weber family which is not given here. I worked from a brief outline sent to a distant cousin by a distant cousing still in Switzerland back in 1972. I don't have all the information from that outline, which does not have much data to begin with.

There is also quite a bit of information, photos, original documents, etc. concerning the family once settled in North West Arkansas. At this time, the documents and data are not in my possession, so I can tell very little that is not already told here.

Coat of Arms - This is one of the few families I have researched that legitimately bears a coat of arms. I am sending for a copy at this time. The written description I have is inadequate, only stating that it has an "Asure" background with 3 stars in a row above a cresent moon.

Descendants of Rudolf Weber

Generation No. 1

1. RUDOLF WEBER was born 1744 and died 1834 in Menziken, Switzerland. He had 7 children, at this time I only know the names of the two below. No more details are known at this time.

Child of RUDOLF WEBER is:

2. ii. SAMUEL WEBER was born 1785 in Switzerland.

v. JOHANNES WEBER

Generation No. 2

2. SAMUEL WEBER was born around 1785 in Switzerland. Apparently, Samuel was successful in his initial venture as a "Haberdasher Manufacturer." Around 1850, he sent his sons out to different countries to discover new family businesses. Tradition states that a couple were sent to Russia, one to England and Johannes was sent to America. This resulted in the cultivation and manufacture of tobacco products in Switzerland. In 1838 the Weber tobacco company was founded, which is a successful venture to this day. Samuel died around 1861 in Switzerland.

Children of SAMUEL WEBER are:

3. i. JOHANNES WEBER born 1815 in Switzerland.
ii. SAMUEL WEBER born about 1816.

Generation No. 3

3. JOHANNES WEBER was born 1815 in Switzerland, and died 1896 in Springdale, Washington Co., Arkansas. He married a LEWIS who was born about 1850 in South Carolina.

Johannes arrived in the United States at the port in New Orleans in 1847. He rode along with a wagon train into the mid-West. He eventually received a land grant in Washington Co., Arkansas (outside of Springdale) which included "Weber Mountain." When he was young, his left pectoral muscle had been cut off during a war "with the Romans." (The German Swiss refered to the Italians as "Romans"). Though Johannes survived the wound, which healed over, his ribs could be seen beneath the skin as a result. He was known to be a very large and strong man even by today's standards. Further details are known, but not available to me at this time.

Children of JOHANNES WEBER and ? LEWIS are:

4. i. JULIUS ALBERT WEBER was born 1877 in Springdale, Washington Co., Arkansas.
ii. IRA SUTTON WEBER born 1880.

Child of JULIUS WEBER and MARY MOLDER is:

5. i. JULIUS PETRONUS WEBER born 10 December 1902, Springdale, Arkansas.

Generation No. 5
